Maasai Mara is one of the most famous reserves in the world, it is well known for hosting the epic Great wildebeest migration each July through October. Apart from that it is home to many wild animals and a great place to explore the wild. The Narok County Government, which directly governs Maasai Mara National Reserve announced an increase to entry fee from 1st January 2024 onwards. It is crucial to comprehend that this significant increase will strengthen the conversation efforts and improve the infrastructure in the reserve. Also, it will help support nearby communities and enhance the already amazing Maasai Mari Safari experience.
New Maasai Mara Entry Rates for Non-Residents from 1st Jan, 2024
1st January – 30th June 2024 (inclusive) for non-residents:
- USD 100 per day, per adult
- USD 50 per day, per child (9-17 years; 8 years and below are free)
1st July – 31st December 2024 (inclusive) for non-residents:
- USD 200 per day, per adult
- USD 50 per day, per child (9-17 years; 8 years and below are free)
Rates for Residents from 1st January 2024
1st January – 30th June 2024 (inclusive) for residents:
- Ksh.3000 per day, per adult
- Ksh.1000 per day, per child/student (9-17 years; 8 years and below are free)
- Ksh.2000 per day, per adult Narok resident
- Ksh.500 per day per child Narok resident (10-17 years; 9 years and below are fee)
- Ksh.4500 per adult East African Resident
- Ksh.2000 per day per child/student East African Resident (10-17 years; 9 years and below are fee)
1st July – 31st December 2024 (inclusive) for residents:
- Ksh.3000 per day, per adult
- Ksh.1000 per day, per child/student (9-17 years; 8 years and below are free)
- Ksh.2000 per day, per adult Narok resident
- Ksh.500 per day per child Narok resident (10-17 years; 9 years and below are fee)
- Ksh.4500 per adult East African Resident
- Ksh.2000 per day per child/student East African Resident (10-17 years; 9 years and below are fee)
Please also note that the implementation of a 12-hour rule (6am – 6pm) is with immediate effect and applies to any guests departing the Masai Mara National Reserve after 11am, where an additional (full day) park fee will be charged. Those departing on the morning flight schedule are not affected.
Guests undertaking any activity (such as a hot air balloon safari) within the Mara Triangle / Mara Conservancy on the morning of departure, are required to pay a full day park fee on that day.
Mode of Payment
Payment in Cash US Dollars or Kenya Shillings is accepted at the entry gates except if you are paying for entry to the western side of the reserve, namely Mara Triangle – Mara Conservancy area, where only cashless payment is accepted ( either Visa / Mastercard or Mpesa Mobile Money). Cashless modes are also accepted as an option for all the other gates including for Sekenani and Talek gates. Citizens and Residents of Kenya are required to carry identification and proof of residence to avail the cheaper Resident rates. Pre-Payment (obtaining tickets in advance) is possible through the KAPS company located in the KATO office, Longonot Road, Upper Hill, Nairobi.
To Sum Up
The increment will significantly improve the safari experience for guests in the MARA. Kenyans residing in Narok County, however, will get some relief as they will pay less than anyone else per day and their children below 10 will enjoy free entry.
